Urban Initiatives go back to school

Hugo joined the team at Design South East this week to deliver a programme of urban design training as part of the Kent Urban Design School. Following an introductory online session to introduce the principles of urban design the fun really started in Canterbury where participants were asked to come up with concept designs for a small site close to the University of Kent.

Hugo provided support and guidance both on site and at the workshop and also took attendees on a tour of the University Kent campus. Located on elevated land to the north of Canterbury City centre the campus, originally conceived by Lord Holbrook in the 1960s, offers spectacular views towards the centre of Canterbury. The campus has changed significantly over recent decades and Hugo provided some insight into both its evolution and the current spatial challenges it faces having assisted Canterbury City Council to provide design advice to the University through the preparation of their campus masterplan in 2019.
